Board of Trustees Meeting
Minutes
Present: Kathy Agnew, Chair; Trustees Dale Garrett, Linda
Larson and Betty Streeter. Librarian
Kate Lewis was also present.
Minutes from
Budget: There were no financial
statements from the City of
Carnegie Capital Resource Fund: After the
purchase of $2000 of books and $6300 for the color copier, there remains $25,
789.00 in the fund. Upcoming payments will
include the cost of covering any unmet pledges to the Citizen’s Bank for the
renovation project , the annual mailing, and paper
expenses to Terrell’s Office Supply.
Also, the two circulation computers for the staff have not yet been
selected.
Public Comment: There was no public present but
Librarian Lewis presented a petition on behalf of Brandon Fossum and 39 others
requesting a discussion with the Board concerning video gaming in the library
for teens. Chair Agnew said she would put Mr. Fossum on the agenda for October
10.
New Job Description for the Library
Director: Lewis requested a clean copy from Chair Agnew
for the policy manual.
MP3 Player Discussion: The members of the Board reported success using the RCA Opal
WMA Players purchased with Federation money by the Library Director. The intent
of the purchase was to enable the members of the Board to become familiar with
the new audio-downloadable book program sponsored by the Montana State Library
through Overdrive. The Board reported
various advertising they had accomplished with several different people. It was suggested that the library’s website
address be added to the MontanaLibrary2Go brochure.
Lawn Care: Chair Agnew reported that she had
heard from Sandi Blake who intends to place pavers under the legs of the bench dedicated to the Ollness family. This will level the base of the bench and
improve its appearance and usefulness.
Carnegie Capital Resource Fund Annual
Mailing: Chair Agnew produced a sample letter to be
mailed out to library supporters. She
asked for feedback concerning the wording and content of the letter which was
provided by the Board. It was decided
that the letter would be sent by
Display Cabinet: Lewis asked permission from the Board to accept a display
cabinet for the downstairs lobby from the FOL.
Dale Garrett moved to accept the gift, Betty Streeter seconded the
motion. The cabinet will be purchased
with funds donated in memory of BTGS teacher Teck Brown and will display a
memorial plaque in her name.
FOL Appreciation Dinner:
Lewis asked the Board for help with an appreciation dinner to be given
on or around October 28 for the Friends of the Library. Board members agreed to confirm their
availability for that date.
Librarian’s Report:
Halloween Parade:
After speaking with Lisa
Wagner, Lewis reported that the Library will now be the last stop made by the
Halloween Parade children on Friday October 30th. They will enter from the
MSL Fall Workshop: Librarians Lewis and Scott
attended the Montana State Library Fall Workshop in Great Fall September 10-11
in order to learn and gain education credits.
Librarian Jacque Scott will qualify for library certification from the
Montana State Library Certification Board by December 2009. Digitization
Class: One of the classes offered
covered digitization of library content.
The library and the museum are in the discussion phase of the
possibility of digitizing the Big Timber Pioneer. This is a huge project and will require grant
funding, and copyright permission from the BT Pioneer.
