Board of Trustees Meeting

July 8, 2010 Minutes

 

 

Present:  Kathy Agnew, Chair; Susie Mosness, Vice-Chair; and Trustee Linda Larson.  Trustee Dale Garrett and Librarian Kate Lewis were on vacation.

 

Minutes from June 10th were read and approved.

 

Budget: The City Council of Big Timber has not yet approved the budget for 2010-2011.  This topic was tabled until the next meeting.  The Council did not approve the Library Board’s request to give the Librarians a 1% raise.

 

OLD BUSINESS

Cement work:  Mr. Groff will start the cement work in front of the library within the next two weeks.

 

Sound System:  Mr. Brekke has not yet finished the work on the sound system in the Community Meeting Room and so has not presented a final bill.  Kathy Agnew has been in touch with Mr. Brekke who has plans to finish up the project soon.

 

Landscaping:  Blake’s Nursery presented a bill for $295.00 for their work on the library landscape.  This bill includes pruning the Vibernum which will be completed soon.

 

Library Board Position:

Suggestions were made for persons to fill the open position on the Library Board. Linda Larson agreed to make some telephone contacts with possible candidates.  Kathy Agnew resigned as Board Chair and Linda Larson was elected to take her place.

 

Library Endowment Fund:

The Board discussed candidates for the Advisory Board for the future endowment fund.

 

NEW BUSINESS

Summer Reading Program:

Librarian Lewis reported that 75 children have signed up for the program this year.

 

Federal Grant:

The Carnegie Library is one of 42 libraries in Montana eligible to receive grant funding for computers and technology.  This is part of a 2.7 million dollar stimulus grant bestowed upon the Montana State Library.

 

Library Director’s Evaluation:  The evaluation was tabled until the next meeting.

 

Next meeting:   The next Board Meeting is scheduled for 5:00 August 12, 2010.
