OLD BUSINESS

Budget:  The annual  library budget submitted by the Board of Trustees to the City Council for $105,566.00 is assumed to be approved.  Unexpected building expenses include $1,000 to Tri-County Sheet Metal for AC maintenance when the library building was hit by lightning which knocked out   at least one condenser, a fan and some electrical parts.  Insurance may cover some of this expense.  The 4th Street door panic bar was stripped out again.  Nevins Glass  is looking into an alternative door locking system.

Library Endowment Committee:  The committee will meet again on Monday @ 10:00 AM.

Newspaper Digitization Project:  Lewis reported that the Montana Memory Project has now included newspapers in their collection.  They have appointed Lauren McMullen to assist the Carnegie Library with the digitizing of the Big Timber Pioneer.  The Montana Historical Society has some grant funding for newspaper projects and will consider funding one year of the Pioneer project.

Montana Author’s Gathering:  7 Montana authors showed up at the annual event to read and entertain patrons on Friday, August 5.  The event was well attended and all enjoyed the intermission with food prepared by the Friends of the Library.

E-Reader Policy:  The word “ driver’s” was added to “license”  for clarity.  Trustee  Mosness then made a motion to approve the policy as amended.  The motion was seconded by Trustee Tyler; all approved.  The policy will be followed when checking out e-readers to library patrons.

NEW BUSINESS

Fall Workshop in Bozeman:  Lewis asked the Board for approval to attend the Fall Workshop  for Library certification credits September 23 and 24th.  FOL President Kathy Jones has agreed to manage the library on the 23rd.  Lewis asked permission to close the library on the 24th.  Trustee Roots moved to approve this request which was seconded by Trustee Mosness.  All approved.  The Saturday closing will be posted on the doors on Tuesday in order to notify patrons of the change in schedule.

Fall Federation Meeting:  Librarian Lewis invited the Board to attend the South Central Federation of Libraries meeting to be held on October 1 at the Laurel Public Library from 10:00 to 3:00.
