Library Board of Trustees Meeting

September 8, 2011 @ 5:00PM

MINUTES

 

Present:  Chair Linda Larson, Vice-Chair Susie Mosness,  Trustees Kathy Agnew, and Doris Roots.  Librarian Kate Lewis was also present.

 

Public Forum: There was no public representation.

 

Approval of the Past Minutes:  Trustee Agnew moved that the minutes from August  11, 2011 be approved.  Trustee Roots seconded the motion.  All approved.

 

OLD BUSINESS

Endowment Foundation Report:  Trustee Agnew showed the letter for the annual fundraiser mailing.  The stuffing of the envelopes was set for October 17 @ 8:00 AM in the Community Meeting Room. 

 

Library Budget:  The Library budget was examined and determined to be about average for this time of year.

 

South Central Federation of Libraries:  The next Federation meeting will be October 1st from 10:00 Am-3:00 PM @ the Laurel Public Library.  The Board was invited to attend by Librarian Lewis who is also the Federation Coordinator. 

 

Fall Workshop:  Librarians Lewis and Scott will attend the Fall Workshop in Bozeman September 23 and 24th.  Kathy Jones, FOL President and long time volunteer, will run the library on Friday, the 23rd and the Library will be closed on Saturday the 24th.  The Saturday closing will be posted all week in order to inform patrons of the Saturday closing.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

4th Street Door:  Lewis reported that she purchased 4 units that will repair the panic bar when it will no longer operate correctly. The door is currently in need of this type of repair.  The items were purchased from Don’s Locks and Clocks from Livingston, MT.  Since the panic bars are no longer being manufactured, Lewis purchased repair kits @ $53.00 a unit so the door could be repaired in the future.

 

BTOP Grant:  In accordance with the grant funding through BTOP, the broadband speed for the Library will be increased from 1.5 MB to 12 MB in the near future.  The Librarians chose to stay with Triangle Communications for this service.  The BTOP Grant has also offered to supply Envisionware software which will allow patrons to make computer reservations .  The software also creates a timing device so patrons will know when their session has ended.

 

Montana Library Association:  Librarian Lewis passed out MLA invitations to the Board members.

 

Next Meeting:  The next meeting is scheduled for October 13th @ 5:00 PM.
