The Library is funded by the City of Big Timber and Sweet Grass County, Montana. It serves a countywide population of 3650. An agency of the City of Big Timber, the Library is governed by a five member Board of Trustees, three members are appointed by the Big Timber City Council and two are appointed by the Sweet Grass County Commissioners. Our operating budget this year is $105,566. Our collection numbers more than 20,000 items, including books, magazines, pamphlets, audio and visual materials, and online resources. Eight public access computer workstations and two Netbooks are available for use free of charge. We also maintain 2 laptop computers for extended research time. The Library is open 43 hours per week year round, with one full time director and one full time assistant. The Carnegie Public Library is a member of the South Central Federation of Montana Libraries and of the Montana Shared Catalog.
